Baraboa Mashuni

Baraboa Mashuni (Pumpkin and tuna mixed with coconut)


  • 400 gram pumpkin (skin peeled, chopped to small pieces and boiled till it becomes soft)
  • one big onion
  • 2- 3 chillies
  • grated coconut (a cup full)
  • one lemon
  • 1/4 smoked tuna or one tuna fish tin
  • salt (to taste)
  • pepper (to taste)


Chop the onion and chilies to fine pieces, put them in a bowl and squeeze both halfs of the lemon into this. Add salt and pepper and mix this nicely. Squeeze the water out of the soft pumpkin pieces, and put the pumpkin inside the mixture followed by the  smoked tuna. If fish tin is used, make sure to discard the oil or brine or water which comes in the tin before taking the fish out from the tin. Serve with roshi (roti).
